Barb's Story
"We hated gyms and I hate exercise!"
Barbara couldn’t walk up and down the stairs in her house without pain.
She couldn’t garden, one of her favourite pastimes, for more than five minutes.
If she’d have fallen down, she wouldn’t have been able to get back up.
Searching for a solution, she joined Care Forward’s Up & About Program with her husband Ed in January 2017.
Just over a year later, she is living with confidence, can spend time in her garden, dance with her husband and her pain has all but disappeared.
“We hated gyms and I hate exercise, so we came in not expecting anything,” she said.
“The staff here just made such a difference. They’re patient, they know what they’re doing and you can see the improvement.”
After finishing her initial 12-week program and noticing a significant improvement, Barb enrolled in ongoing Up & Running Classes. She is having fun, building confidence and feeling stronger every day.

Up & About
Up & About is a 12-week group exercise and health education class for people 65 years and over.
The weekly classes in Hobart, Devonport and Launceston are conducted by Care Forward exercise physiologists.
Each participant receives an individually tailored exercise program, health education ranging from understanding diabetes and nutrition through to falls prevention and a final health assessment at the end of the 12 weeks.
